I began traveling south of the border in 1972 on a trip to Peru, and for the last 31 years I have made all of Latin America, and especially Mexico, an integral part of my life.

By 1982 I was spending much of my time in a sleepy, little colonial treasure called Alamos in southern Sonora. I was struck by the beauty and tranquil environment of this forgotten town, and, by the desert that surrounds it. Over the next several years I began to explore the mountainous areas to the east of Alamos by motorcycle, learning the land and the culture of its native people, and making friends everywhere I went.

To date I have logged over 25,000 dirt road miles through these mountains. This kind of experience, coupled with 12 years of Rio Mayo tours in Sonora and over 18 years of white water rafting tours, has given me the knowledge and guiding skills which are needed when touring the back roads of Mexico.I know the land and I know the people.

I have also spent the last 6 years working with Solipaso tours on the Rio Mayo giving natural history and cultural interpretation tours. This valuable insight into the history and culture of Mexico's native people makes for an unforgettable tour.

My love of guiding stems from a desire to help people get the most out of their adventure experience.

This is Jose Ruelas, they call him 'Old man of the mountains.' He is the ex-Chief of the Guarijio Indian nation and a friend of mine. He is pictured in front of my house after staying the night there during a recent trip to Alamos. His story is remarkable and is detailed in the book "The Guarijios of the Sierra Madre: Hidden people of Northwestern Mexico " by David Yetman.
