After countless inquiries regarding Bigger Adventure Motorcycles off-road in the Copper Canyon, Sierra Madre Motorcycle Adventures has tailor made an exciting new itinerary and route to maximize your Copper Canyon experience and accommodate the bigger adventure bikes.

GENERAL TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1  Your adventure begins in beautiful Alamos, Sonora, Mexico, to a great Five Course Dinner and Lodging at the wonderfully secluded Rancho Palomar, followed by a Slide Show and Trip Orientation.

Day 2 Start your day with a hardy breakfast before heading south on dirt roads to the colonial town of El Fuerte  for a brief rest prior to ending your day in the out-of-the-way town of Choix, Sinaloa.

Day 3 Following the local fare for breakfast, you depart Choix heading north into the Copper Canyon area.  Riding along the Rio Fuerte, you visit the historic church in Tuberas, and then climb 6000’ on a challenging, single lane, dirt road from the valley up into the panoramic pine forest.  Later, after descending another 6000’ into the bottom of Copper Canyon, you arrive in the village of Urique for local cuisine and old-world lodging

Day 4 A specially prepared breakfast sends you on your way back to the high country and pine forest, passing through Cerocahui, Bahuichivo, and many other interesting villages before stopping off in Divisadero on the way to Creel for the night.

Day 5 After breakfast, you leave Creel on a stretch of pavement that passes through breathtaking canyon country, and descend 6000’ once again.  Enjoy incredible views into the canyon of the Rio Batopilas before arriving in Batopilas for a two night stay at the spectacular Hotel Real de las Minas with hosts Martin and Lupe.

Day 6 This is a day to explore the fantastic village of Batopilas and relax. There are many interesting sights such as The Lost Cathedral of Satevo, the ruins of Robert Shepard’s Mansion, mine workings, and some great day riding.  Batopilas is truly a unique and beautiful place.

Day 7 After breakfast, you are on your own as you journey back through Creel, Yecora and Basaseachi Falls, with interesting alternative route suggestions for your return to the border.

A WORD FROM YOUR GUIDE

"Bikes and Riding experience: This tour was designed for the bigger adventure bikes; 1200 GS, etc.  I have seen many people get in over their head with big bikes in the canyon area. It is imperative that you have had some off the highway riding experience on your big bike. Yes, you will learn as you go, but better to learn before you get into the remote areas we will be riding. The road conditions constantly change, depending on road grading and recent rains. My experience is that rider skills vary greatly with individuals.  I have seen those that are temped to kiss the pavement, and others manage; no problem. Bottom line: develop your skill before you come.

Your bike should be in excellent mechanical condition, with knobby tires, and not overloaded. We will not be camping on this trip so keep your gear to a minimum. Bring your own tools and method of fixing your tires if need be. Before the trip I will send you a packing list, with suggestions of things to bring. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, via telephone or internet, I will be happy to assist you.

Please take the time to READ ALL OF MY WEBSITE.  Most of the information for my more aggressive dirt bike tours is relevant to the bigger adventure bike trip.
